Turkey reports the first case of new Coronavirus
Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca confirmed the country’s first case of COVID-19 in the opening minutes of Wednesday. “The first Coronavirus patient of Turkey got it from Europe, his condition is OK, he and his family are under quarantine,” said Minister Koca. He didn’t share the name or the location of the patient.
The live press conference of the minister announced around midnight, it started 22 minutes late and continued for nearly ten minutes.
Turkey was one of the few countries that hadn’t reported any Coronavirus cases. Except for Syria, Turkey’s neighbors have reported multiple coronavirus cases in the past month. Globally, more than 4,000 people have died from the coronavirus, and over 113,000 cases have been confirmed, according to the latest report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Tuesday. About 64,000 people have recovered around the world.
“It is highly likely this outbreak is currently in Turkey. There are no confirmed cases of this virus,” has said Minister Koca in one of his latest press briefs, which happened a couple of hours before the latest one. He reported that they had run more than 2,000 tests on suspected cases so far, and none tested positive for the virus.
During the time between two press conferences of Koca, the Ministry of Health canceled all annual leaves for the medical personnel works on borders until further notice.
